History

Voyager, Displaced

In the year 2371, the USS Voyager departed Deep Space Nine. Destined for an infamous area of space known as the Badlands, the Intrepid class starship had a simple mission. To track down a Maquis raider, the Val Jean, and take its crew into custody for acts against the Cardassian empire which threatened the peace.

However, what was to be a simple, three week mission turned into a seven year journey when Voyager and the Val Jean both were transported seventy five thousand lightyears from home by a powerful entity known as the Caretaker. Over the course of seven years, Voyager adapted, advanced the frontiers of exploration and science, and most importantly, found a way home.

The Pathfinder Project

In 2374, Voyager discovered a relay station network and was able to use it to transmit their EMH to a Starfleet vessel, the USS Prometheus, on the edge of its range. After taking control of the vessel from Romulan agents who had managed to capture it, the Doctor managed to get in touch with Starfleet Command. In short order, Project Pathfinder was formed, with the objective of communicating with Voyager and finding a way to bring the vessel home.

The return of Voyager

In the year 2378, Starfleet was alarmed when a transwarp conduit appeared less than a lightyear from Earth. Scrambling to respond, a fleet of starships attempted to engage the Borg vessel, only for it to explode from the inside out. To the shock of the entire Federation, Voyager then emerged from within the sphere as it was destroyed. After seven years, the crew had returned home.

Origins of the Pathfinder

After Voyager returned, engineers went over the much changed starship from stem to stern, learning about the new technology that had been integrated into its systems with the help of the ship's crew. Starfleet rushed to incorporate technology from Voyager into as many of its ships as possible, but the resources needed to do so were somewhat scarce. From the outset, the Starfleet core of engineers wanted to develop an improved starship based on the data they had retrieved from Voyager's logs. Thus the concept of the Pathfinder class was born. Over the course of three years, Starfleet used the Intrepid class as a template and developed a modified vessel based on that design, naming it after the Earth project which made contact with Voyager in the first place. Then, in December of 2380, the Pathfinder prototype Was officially completed.
