Tricobalt Warhead Secure Storage (Deck 12)

The tricobalt storage vault is tucked into its own dead-end alcove off the main weapons corridor, separated from every other compartment on the deck by a full meter of layered shielding visible in the unusually thick doorframe surrounding its single blast door. The door itself is noticeably heavier than any other hatch in the weapons section, its surface a dull, radiation-dampening alloy with none of the standard hazard striping used elsewhere, marked instead by a single small plate stenciled with a tricobalt warning glyph and a stark warning notice in block lettering.
Inside, the vault holds only four warhead casings, each considerably bulkier and more heavily jacketed than a standard torpedo, resting upright in individual reinforced cradles spaced widely apart along the back wall. Thick shielded conduit loops from each cradle base into a floor-recessed containment monitor, its small display showing a continuously updating radiation and stability readout in a tight cluster of green digits. The walls of the vault itself are lined with a slightly textured matte grey material distinct from the composite panel used elsewhere, a passive radiation-absorbing layer that gives the compartment a strangely muffled, sound-deadened quality.
A single narrow console beside the door requires standing command authorization logged directly from the bridge before its internal locks will disengage, its small screen otherwise displaying only a blank standby pattern. The lighting is dim, a single low-intensity fixture overhead casting long shadows between the widely spaced cradles, and the air is unusually still and cool, carrying almost no smell at all beyond a faint metallic note from the shielding material itself. The vault is silent apart from the occasional soft click of the containment monitor cycling through its automated diagnostic sweep.
