Weapons Maintenance Workshop (Deck 12)

Created by Captain Natira Dareese on Tue Sep 22nd, 2026 @ 11:49pm

The weapons maintenance workshop is a mid-sized compartment lined with workbenches along three of its four walls, each bench topped in scored grey composite and fitted with an overhead articulated task lamp that can be swung down over a piece of equipment in progress. Removed phaser emitter modules, some no larger than a hand and others the size of a small suitcase, sit in various states of disassembly across several of the benches, their internal focusing crystals and power coupling housings exposed under bright, focused light. A dedicated calibration rig occupies the center of the room, a waist-high framework holding a test emitter aimed down a shielded firing corridor built into the far wall, its inner surface lined with matte black energy-absorbing panels scarred by countless faint scorch patterns from calibration discharges. A status board beside the rig displays discharge output in a scrolling numeric readout, flanked by a large red warning light that activates automatically whenever the corridor is live. Along the fourth wall, floor-to-ceiling parts racks hold replacement components sorted by type: focusing crystals in padded individual slots, power cells in dense stacked trays, and spare housing shells in a rough, functional pile near the bottom. The lighting throughout is bright and clinical, similar to the fighter maintenance bay, though tempered somewhat by the warmer glow of the individual bench lamps. The air carries a faint ozone smell that sharpens noticeably near the calibration corridor, mixed with the drier scent of heated composite from soldering work at the benches. The room is rarely fully silent, a low background hum from idle diagnostic equipment interrupted periodically by the sharp crack of a calibration discharge and the accompanying flash of light from the firing corridor.
