SIF Generator Compartment (Deck 13)

The SIF generator compartment is a compact, heavily reinforced room built around three massive generator housings arranged in a tight triangular formation, each a squat, drum-shaped structure nearly reaching the overhead, finished in a dense grey-black composite noticeably heavier in appearance than the equipment found in nearby engineering spaces. A narrow service ring surrounds each generator at roughly waist height, studded with small diagnostic ports and a single status ring of light that glows a steady blue-white during normal operation, brightening perceptibly during periods of increased structural stress. Thick support struts radiate outward from the base of each generator housing, bolted directly into the surrounding bulkheads and deck in a way that makes the compartment feel more like a structural node than an ordinary equipment room. A narrow console stands near the entrance, its LCARS display tracking field strength distribution across the surrounding hull sections in a simplified wireframe outline that shifts color from calm blue-green toward amber under strain, though it currently shows an even, undisturbed field. Overhead, exposed structural I-beams cross the compartment at odd angles, painted the same flat grey as the rest of the ship but noticeably thicker than elsewhere, a visible reminder of the load this section is built to bear. The air carries almost no smell beyond a faint metallic note, and the room is quiet apart from a very low, almost subharmonic hum that seems to come from the deck and walls themselves rather than any single visible source. The lighting is plain and even, a simple recessed grid overhead, giving the compartment a stark, purely functional character distinct from the more elaborate control spaces nearby.
