Ship's Armory (Deck 14)

The armory is a long, narrow compartment lined on both sides with floor-to-ceiling weapons racks, each rack a series of individually lit cradles holding hand phasers and compact phaser rifles in neat, evenly spaced rows. The weapons themselves rest muzzle-down in molded recesses, their charge indicators glowing a uniform soft green when fully powered and holstered, a small nameplate slot beneath each cradle currently empty of any personal assignment markers. A section near the room's midpoint holds bulkier tactical rifles and a scattering of specialized equipment cases, their lids secured with simple mechanical latches rather than the electronic locks used on the smaller arms.
The entrance is barred by a shimmering, faintly visible forcefield curtain that hums audibly at a low, steady pitch, deactivated only after a successful biometric scan at the adjoining access panel, its surface a simple handprint plate flanked by a small screen displaying clearance level requirements in blunt red lettering. Beyond the field, the compartment's lighting shifts to a brighter, harsher white than the corridor outside, designed to make every rack clearly visible at a glance. The floor is a plain, unadorned composite tile, kept scrupulously clean, and the walls are broken only by the ranks of weapon cradles and a single wall-mounted inventory display tracking the exact count and status of every item stored within.
The air is cool and carries almost no scent beyond a faint metallic note from the weapon housings themselves. The room is otherwise silent apart from the forcefield's persistent hum and the occasional soft click of a cradle release mechanism resetting after a scheduled inventory check, giving the whole space a controlled, almost clinical stillness very different from the more lived-in feel of the offices nearby.
