Aft Torpedo Launchers (Deck 14)

The aft launcher compartment sits at the stern-most point of Deck 14's accessible spaces, its two launcher breeches mounted side by side facing directly aft through the hull, angled slightly outward to give a marginally wider aft firing arc. Each breech is built to the same dark grey, banded-collar design found in the ship's other torpedo launchers, though the compartment itself feels more cramped, its aft bulkhead curving inward to follow the narrowing profile of the engineering hull's stern. A short loading rail descends from an overhead hatch connecting to the adjacent magazine, terminating at a small distribution junction that feeds either tube via a compact articulated arm. Status panels above each breech display load state in the same blocky green-amber lettering used throughout the ship's weapons systems, and a narrow inspection catwalk runs along the base of both tubes, allowing a technician to check the breech mechanisms without needing to enter the tighter space directly behind them. The compartment's aft-facing curvature means the deck itself has a slight upward slope toward the stern, and the overhead is correspondingly lower at the back of the room than near the entrance. Lighting is dim and utilitarian, a handful of caged fixtures spaced unevenly along the centerline, and the air carries the same machine-oil and ozone smell common to the ship's other launcher spaces. A faint, resonant creak occasionally passes through the aft hull plating during hard maneuvering, more noticeable here than in the forward launcher bays given the compartment's position at the very end of the ship's structural spine.
