Aft Torpedo Magazine (Deck 14)

The aft magazine is the smallest dedicated torpedo storage space aboard, a single compact room holding just two short rack columns of standard photon casings, each secured behind the familiar retractable restraint bars and marked with the same green-amber status tiles used in the ship's larger magazines. A short loading rail runs directly from the racks to the floor hatch connecting down to the aft launcher compartment, with no distribution junction needed given the room serves only the two tubes below. The compartment's walls curve inward noticeably to match the tapering aft hull, giving the room an oddly wedge-shaped footprint that narrows toward the stern. A single small monitoring console beside the entrance tracks the remaining inventory in a simple numeric readout, rarely needing attention given the magazine's limited capacity and correspondingly light rotation of stock. Overhead, a scattering of caged lights provides plain, even illumination, and the deck is the same heavy diamond-plate composite used throughout the ship's weapons spaces, though scaled down to fit the room's modest dimensions. The air carries the familiar faint machine-oil smell common to ordnance storage, and the compartment is quiet apart from the occasional soft click of a restraint bar during a routine check. Given its size and infrequent use, the aft magazine has an almost forgotten, seldom-visited quality compared to the more heavily trafficked main magazine, its low ceiling and curved walls lending it a slightly cramped, tucked-away feel at the very end of the ship's weapons systems.
