Consumables Resupply Connectors - Engineering (Deck 16)

This compartment sits directly behind a bank of external hull connector ports, its inner wall dominated by a row of six heavy coupling housings recessed into the bulkhead, each ringed with a wide hazard-yellow collar and fitted with a mechanical latching arm that swings closed to secure an external supply line once connected. The couplings themselves vary in size and fitting profile, from broad cargo-transfer conduits to narrower lines intended for specialized fluids or gases, each clearly labeled above its housing with a small backlit placard identifying its designated cargo type.
The compartment's opposite wall holds a bank of flow-regulation equipment, valves and small pump units that meter whatever is being received through the active connectors and route it onward into the ship's internal distribution systems. A central LCARS control station between the two equipment walls displays real-time connector status, showing which ports are active, sealed, or standing empty, along with flow rate and total volume transferred during the current operation. Indicator lights above each connector housing shift from dark to amber to steady green as a connection is made, pressurized, and confirmed safe for transfer.
The deck is heavy-duty grating over a shallow recessed trough designed to catch and drain any incidental spillage during transfer operations, and the walls are unadorned grey composite scuffed near the connector housings from the routine friction of coupling and uncoupling external lines. When resupply operations are underway, the compartment fills with the hiss and clank of connectors engaging and the low hum of transfer pumps, along with whatever faint scent accompanies the particular consumable being transferred; when idle, it sits dark and silent but for the standby hum of the monitoring station, waiting for the ship's next port call or supply rendezvous.
