Modular Brig Expansion Kits (Deck 19)

Tucked into a side alcove off the main cargo bay's forward section, this storage area holds a stack of prefabricated brig expansion modules, self-contained cell units designed to be moved by gantry crane and rapidly assembled into a temporary detention block should the ship's standard brig capacity prove insufficient. Each module sits crated in its own reinforced shipping container, roughly the size of a standard cargo unit but marked with distinct blue identification stripes and stenciled assembly instructions rather than ordinary freight labeling, stacked two high along the alcove's rear wall.
A sample module stands assembled near the front of the alcove for training and inspection purposes, its construction revealing the design's simplicity: a forcefield-generating frame surrounding a small floor plate, capable of being anchored to any flat deck section and powered from a portable EPS tap, creating a functional detention cell wherever it's deployed. A tool cart nearby holds the specialized connectors and portable power cells needed for rapid field assembly, along with a laminated quick-reference card summarizing the setup procedure for crew unfamiliar with the equipment.
The alcove's walls are plain cargo-bay grey, indistinguishable from the surrounding bay but for a small identifying placard mounted beside the entrance. Lighting matches the main bay's even industrial illumination, and the space carries the same mingled cargo-and-machinery scent as the rest of the deck. The modules sit in undisturbed readiness for what both crew and command hope remains a rare contingency, their crates showing only the faint dust of long storage rather than any sign of regular handling, a quiet insurance policy tucked into the corner of the ship's largest hold.
