Astrometrics Laboratory (Deck 8)

Entering from the forward central corridor, the room opens dramatically after the corridor's narrow proportions into a wide, high-ceilinged chamber. Nearly the entire forward wall is given over to a curved wraparound screen that bends partway down each side wall as well, floor to ceiling. When active, it doesn't simply display images - it fills with a genuine three-dimensional rendering of stellar space, points of light and drifting nebulae hanging in apparent depth rather than flattened against the surface. A raised circular dais sits at the center of the floor, reached by two shallow steps and ringed by a low handrail, lit from beneath by a soft blue glow set into its rim. A single holo-emitter mounted in the deckhead above can throw a smaller, person-sized secondary display just above the dais surface - a rotating planetary model or a away-team's telemetry rendered in miniature for a briefing. Flanking the dais, a bank of upright control consoles curves in a shallow arc facing the wraparound screen, their sloped tops covered in amber-on-black LCARS touch panels for aiming, filtering, and annotating the display. Along both side walls, recessed alcoves each hold a standing workstation, giving technicians room to run independent sensor correlation work without stepping into the central display area. The floor is a dark, non-reflective composite chosen to keep stray light from washing out the screen, and ambient lighting stays deliberately low except directly around the consoles, so the wraparound display remains the visual anchor of the room. Through a grated floor panel near the aft wall, the dedicated processing hardware for the lab's auxiliary computer core is faintly visible, humming steadily beneath a cooling draft noticeably colder than the corridor outside.
