Deuterium Processing - Upper (Deck 8)

The compartment centers on a single large processing tank rising from floor to overhead, its curved surface a dull, faintly warm-to-the-touch metal rather than the composite paneling used elsewhere on the deck. A ring of small inspection ports circles the tank at eye level, each fitted with a thick transparent viewport showing a faint blue-white glow from the purification process inside. Secondary piping branches off the main tank in several directions, most routed downward through a reinforced deck plate toward the saucer's deuterium storage tanks below. A narrow catwalk with a single guardrail runs partway around the tank at a raised level, giving a technician access to valve clusters and sensor housings without needing a ladder or lift. A control station is set back from the tank itself, angled so an operator can watch both the console and the tank's status ring simultaneously. The display tracks purity levels, flow rate, and internal pressure, with a subdued warning tone reserved for any reading outside normal parameters. The walls of the compartment are utilitarian bare metal and structural framework, with only the floor given a composite non-slip surface. The room carries a low, steady mechanical thrum from the processing tank itself, occasionally underscored by a brief metallic tick as internal components expand or contract with the flow of processed deuterium. The air is faintly warm near the tank and carries the same faint metallic tang found in most heavily industrial compartments on the ship.
