Isokinetic Cannon Power Capacitor Bank (Deck 9)

Each of these two mirrored compartments is filled almost entirely by a single massive capacitor cell, a tall, rounded rectangular housing running from deck to overhead and finished in a dark, non-reflective composite unlike the paler tones used elsewhere on the ship. A vertical row of charge-level indicators runs down the front of the housing, segments lighting bottom to top in a deep blue as the cell charges, the topmost segment flashing when a full charge is reached. Heavy busbars as thick as a forearm connect the cell to the ship's main power distribution, entering through reinforced ports low on the housing and disappearing into the deck toward the isokinetic cannon control room. A narrow walkway rings the compartment, just wide enough for a technician to pass fully around the cell during inspection, bounded by a low warning rail marked with high-voltage caution striping. A compact monitoring station near the door tracks charge rate, cell temperature, and estimated time to next full charge, updating in real time with a soft, rhythmic tick that syncs to the charge cycle. The air near the cell has a faint static charge to it, noticeable as a slight prickling on exposed skin when standing close, and a low electrical whine builds steadily as the cell approaches full charge. When the cannon fires, the capacitor discharges in an instant - the charge indicators drop to zero in a single visible sweep, accompanied by a sharp electrical crack audible even through the compartment's reinforced walls, before the slow blue climb of recharging begins again.
