Phaser Array Maintenance Access (Deck 9)

Both the dorsal and ventral access points follow the same cramped, low-ceilinged design, distributed at intervals along the mid-deck rather than concentrated in a single room. Each is a narrow crawlway rather than a proper compartment, just tall enough to move through in a stooped crouch, running a short distance out toward the hull before ending at an emitter segment housing. The housing itself is a squat, heavily insulated assembly bolted directly to the hull structure, with a hinged access panel exposing the phaser emitter's power coupling and focusing crystal alignment hardware when opened. Thick armored conduit feeds into the housing from an EPS junction further back in the crawlway, wrapped in the same dull protective sheathing used for other weapons-critical power runs. A small diagnostic display is mounted just inside the crawlway entrance, showing emitter status, coupling integrity, and alignment calibration for that particular segment, readable without needing to crawl all the way to the housing itself. Hand and foot holds are built into the crawlway's lower surface at intervals, necessary given the tight, angled approach most segments require. The crawlways are unfinished bare structural metal throughout, cold and slightly damp with condensation near the hull-facing end, and carry a persistent faint ozone smell from the emitter hardware even when the phasers are powered down. When the weapons are fired, a sharp electrical crack and a brief, powerful vibration pass through the housing, felt clearly by anyone working nearby at the time.
