Main Shuttlebay - Bay 1 (Deck 10)

The bay opens into a cavernous, hangar-scaled volume that dwarfs nearly every other interior space on the ship, its flight deck running the full width of the hull and open to a towering overhead lost in shadow above the working lights. A shimmering, faintly visible curtain of atmospheric containment field seals the aft launch aperture, distorting the starfield beyond into soft ripples whenever a craft passes through. Two Type-9 and two Type-11 shuttlecraft sit parked in marked bays along the deck, each nose-in toward the walls with fuel and power umbilicals connected, wingtip clearance lines painted in bright yellow underfoot. Overhead, a network of retracted tractor beam emitter housings and recovery gantries hangs ready to guide an incoming craft to a gentle stop, and floor-recessed deck lighting outlines the primary landing lanes in alternating white and amber. Along the side walls, ordnance and fuel umbilical stations stand at intervals, thick cables and hoses coiled and capped when not in service. The bay's sheer scale makes even routine activity look small - technicians and tow-tractors moving between craft seem to shrink against the open flight deck, and voices carry with a faint echo across the open space when the ambient machinery noise dips. When the bay is sealed and pressurized, a subdued mechanical hum from environmental systems fills the space, occasionally overtaken by the higher whine of a craft's engines spinning up for launch or the heavier thrum of an incoming shuttle's approach thrusters. The air carries a faint tang of impulse exhaust and hydraulic fluid, and a cold draft is always noticeable near the containment field, however well it holds atmosphere against the vacuum beyond.
